#1. WEN 56380i Gasoline Inverter Generator with Electric Start

The WEN 56380i is made with an extremely reliable four-stroke 212cc engine. This engine is an OHV with a single cylinder that is air-cooled. You can expect 3,800 watts of surge power and 3,400 watts of continuous rated power. This kind of power allows you to run your power tools, microwave oven, air conditioner, heater, and full-size refrigerator (not at the same time). This is perfect for RV enthusiasts and sailors of the deep blue.

This generator is great for RV, construction sites, power outages, home backup, camping, food truck, boat, fishing, and hunting. I used the WEN 56380i to power the air conditioner 15,000 BTU (2000 watts), lighting (150 watts), refrigerator (600 watts), TV (150 watts), and phone charger, all at the same time.

It weighs 99-pounds wet making it on the heavy side. It has two handles on either side for two people to carry it. And it also comes with a nice handle so you could wheel it around with a couple of small plastic wheels, better than some that I've seen on the market.

What is in the Package?

Included: small tool kit (screwdriver, spark plug wrench, and 2 combination wrenches) funnel cup, funnel tube, manual, warranty card. The generator is shipped without oil and gasoline.

The easy-to-understand control panel has a low-oil lamp and an overload alarm. This is an electric start model, so you don't have to worry about cranking it.

The ECO-MODE technology helps it conserve energy while keeping the noise level to about 57 dBA. That is pretty good for such a powerful machine. It is EPA and CARB compliant as well.

My Noise Test

  1. Idle speed, 23 ft., eco mode off: 71 dBA
  2. Idle speed, 23 ft., eco mode on: 59 dBA

One cool feature of this generator is that you can connect two of them together to double your wattage. This is a 3,800-watt generator. So, by connecting two of them, you should be able to get 7,600 Watts.

Other features:

  • Its 2.2-gallon gas tank is capable of running the generator for about 8.5 hours at half load.
  • The generator is equipped with two USB ports (1-amp and 2.1-amp).

The generator also offers an ECO Throttle switch that allows the generator to run slower and save gas when it's not pulling a substantial load. The oil reservoir allows for approximately 0.42 quarts or 14 ounces, and it's easy to change as required.

Two 125-volt 20-amp receptacles (NEMA 5-20R) are also available with a handy rubber magnetic cover to help keep them dry.

What is in the Package?

Included: generator, manual, warranty card. The generator is shipped without oil, gasoline, wrenches, and screwdrivers.

Best features of the Westinghouse iGen4500

Remote Start: this unit can be operated by a key fob, adding to the convenience of starting this generator from some distance away. It's very nice to be able to lay in bed in a campground where you have to shut your generators off at night to be able in the morning when quiet hours are over to start this generator without even getting up.

Clean power: our home electronic safety is paramount; this generator produces clean power with less than 3% distortion.

The item weighs 98 pounds fresh from the box, making it one of the most lightweight generators going for its output capacity.

Durable engine: it designed to shut down when the level of oil is too low and when there is overload this prevents the generator from damage which eventually increases longevity.

It's easy to combine a generator like this with another generator to get even more power and more output.

One of the nicest features of this generator is that it has a meter that tells me how much power I'm using, how much fuel is on board, what my output voltage is and how many hours I have remaining based on the current load of this generator. So how long it will run on the fuel that's in it.

#4. WEN 56235i 1900 Rated Watts Lightweight & Portable Generator

So, this is the WEN 56235i. The “i” stands for the inverter. It produces 2,350 starting watts and 1,900 running watts. This gasoline generator is easy to carry and very compact. If weight or space is an issue, then a generator like this one is for you.

What is in the Package?

Included: spark plug wrench, screwdriver, combination wrench (8mm & 10mm), oil funnel, manual, warranty card. The generator is shipped without oil and gasoline.

The best features of this generator are its 39-pound weight and operating noise. The noise level is rated at 51 dB at 23 feet away. My noise test: idle speed, 23 ft., eco mode on - 52.5 dBA.

The WEN 56235i has two 120V/20-amp (NEMA 5-20R) outlets that are capable of powering single-phase 60 Hz loads. It also includes one 12V/8.3-amp DC outlet for charging batteries. Its USB ports allow you to charge many of the popular devices, such as smartphones and tablets.

Great for camping, tailgate, hunting, power outage, construction site, boat, party, fishing, and recreation. I used the WEN 56235i to power lights (100 watts), furnace fan (75 watts), water pump (80 watts), electric blanket (200 watts), microwave (900 watts), TV (150 watts), game console (200 watts), and a mini-fridge (100 watts), all at the same time.

The only thing I can't run with this generator is my air conditioner, which starts at about 3,000 Watts and runs at about 2000 Watts. For most of the time, this generator is going to cover my camping needs.

Now let's say I went camping someplace hotter. We have deserts in the Southern part of our state, and I very much might want to run my air conditioner in those where it can get up to 115 degrees. If you get a generator like this, it's relatively inexpensive to scale up. So what you do is you pick up the second one of these, and at the cost of being $400 per generator for this jet, it's very affordable. You get a second one, now you're up to $800 and what they call a parallel connection kit.

#8. Power Station Aeiusny 288Wh - Solar Portable Generator

Aeiusny is amongst the popular brands that have earned a reputation for producing some of the most reliable power stations on the market.

Their UPS-500AD model is no different. It’s a high capacity power station that's not only very portable but also comes packed with several amazing features which have made it stand out as Amazon's best-seller in portable power inverters.

To start, the unit is fitted with a 288Wh, 8000mAh Lithium-ion battery and a 500W inverter making it one of the most powerful stations in its category.

The 500W inverter alone is higher than that of similar models which is a big plus as it can comfortably keep several devices juiced up at the same time. The 288Wh battery equally offers a very large capacity that can last a long time on just a single charge.

Once fully charged, this capacity is enough to charge a laptop for up to 8 hours and smartphones for around 40 times. However, it will only handle devices under 500W and heating appliances with less than 200W.

This Aeiusny UPS-500AD model also features Pure Sine Wave technology which means it can deliver clean, stable and consistent electricity that's just as safe and dependable as the on-grid power you get at home.

Chances of overcharging, over-discharging or short-circuits occurring are also very unlikely with this Aeiusny power station as it's equipped with a battery management system that offers ample protection against such cases.

What’s even more appealing is that it features 11 output ports which make it one of the few very versatile units on the market today.

It has 4 USB ports with two having a high loading speed at 2.1 amps to facilitate fast charging of rechargeable USB devices. Below the USB outlets are 4 DC output ports meant for small devices requiring 12V DC power with maximum current not exceeding 8A.

On the other side of the device are three AC output ports with a maximum output power of 500 watts which is sufficient to run small devices like a laptop, lamp or fan.

The Aeiusny UPS-500AD also offers two ways of powering your CPAP machine. You can use a 12V DC plug or 110V AC plug, so it’s a really quite convenient unit.

Its versatility has been extended to the charging method too as it comes with multiple charging options to ensure you are not left without power at any given time.

You can use an AC wall adapter which takes 7-8 hours, car adapter which takes 8-9 hours or through the 60W Aeiusny solar panel. It can support 40-100W solar panels and can take 10 to 12 hours based on the power of the solar charger you use.

The unit features an automatic bypass too hence you can charge up to seven devices simultaneously with no problems at all. In terms of build quality, the Aeiusny UPS-500AD is a robust unit built using a sturdy ABS plastic with a solid foldable handle.

It's durable enough to withstand the harsh outdoor conditions for a long time and sufficiently lightweight to be carried and transported easily for camping activities. It runs quietly too, so you can expect zero disturbance.

One bonus feature you will certainly like is the LED lamp it comes with which is very bright and can be used as a flashlight during an emergency.

The only minor issue we noted is that the solar inlet tends to rotate inside the housing. You have to hold in place when screwing in the solar connector.

To sum it all, this Aeiusny UPS-500AD 288Wh/500W is no doubt a great value and you will definitely appreciate how efficient and reliable it is. If you are after higher capacity and versatility with great portability, then this is an option you should highly consider.

#9. Power Station Jackery Explorer 240 - Solar Portable Generator

Buying a portable power station is often a tradeoff between size and capacity. However, Jackery seems to have provided a good solution to this problem when they released their Explorer 240 power station. This unit really strikes a perfect balance between size and capacity. It's ultra-portable yet powerful enough to deliver consistent power supply.

Featuring a 67000 mAh Lithium-ion battery with a 240Wh capacity, the unit packs a punch and can provide sufficient power to run and keep your devices charged while on-the-go.

It offers enough power to charge smartphones around 18 times, laptops 4 times and GoPro up to 40 times.

The unit is equipped with several outputs that allow you to power almost any small electronic device from mini projectors, drones, and a small refrigerator. It comes with a US standard AC outlet, 2 USB outputs, and a carport outlet.

However, the AC output port is designed to only power devices which operate under 200W. Therefore, it will support all your small power appliances including CPAP machines provided the rated input power is under 200W.

Another commendable thing is the fact that it utilizes a pure sine wave inverter which is often found in large-sized stations.

This inverter allows the unit to deliver steady and consistent electricity which safely powers your devices and helps protect them from the harmful power surges. Non-pure sine wave inverters generate unstable power which is most likely to damage electronic devices.

Another major highlight is that it offers several recharging options. You can charge it from an AC wall outlet (takes 8 hrs), a carport (takes 8 hrs), or using a 60W solar panel which is sold separately and takes around 7 hours in full sun.

The best part is that the unit supports pass-through charging and this means that you can utilize all the ports while it’s charging. The only setback though is that the charging speed will reduce.

The Explorer 240 comes equipped with Jackery’s Battery Management System (BMS) too. This is basically a safety feature that protects it from overcharging, over-voltage and short circuits. The unit will shut off automatically once a device exceeds 200W.

Design-wise, this is one of the few small-size power stations that feature an LCD display and that’s a big plus as it allows you to know the battery status easily.

The unit is equally solidly built using a high impact plastic with a rugged feel, so it will endure rough handling and certainly last for years. Plus all the ports are well made too and provide a secure connection with no sloppiness whatsoever.

Considering that it’s quite compact and lightweight weighing only 6.6 lbs, this Explorer 240 power station is a very convenient unit to bring along on trips and won’t take up much room in your tent or car. The handle is sturdy and provides a firm yet easy grip.

Overall, the Jackery Explorer 240 is not just a decently powerful device but it's also one of the most portable, versatile and easiest power stations to use.

If you are in search of a more practical and reliable power supply that can make your off-grid life exciting, then we the Jackery Explorer 240 is an option that’s highly worth considering.
